Volunteer Co-Ordinator Returns Home
In May 2011 our first 'In-Country' Volunteer Co-Ordinator, Ciara Byrne, travelled to Tanzania for a 3 month Work Placement. Ciaras duties included managing our volunteers, visiting Projects and liaising with our partners.

She returned to Ireland in late August after helping our organisation and partner Projects to develop immensely. We thank Ciara for her commitment, enthusiasm and hard work over the course of the Summer.

We will be accepting applications for the position of 'Volunteer Co-Ordinator, Tanzania' for next summer from September 2011. If you are interested you should send your CV and a Cover Note to us by post or email!

Orphanage Painting
Reports show that the use of color in a learning environment can improve a childs learning potential and performance.

It can also reduce stress and encourage brain development through visual stimulation.

TVP is active in this area and our volunteers have been responsible for painting in numerous educational Projects including KCOS Nursery in June and Children of Destiny Orphanage in August.

Main Story

KCOS Kitchen
August saw one of our biggest Development Projects yet as a Volunteer Group travelled to Tanzania to build a kitchen in KCOS Nursery.
KCOS provides education, lunch and childcare to over 350 children in one of the poorest regions in Moshi Town.

Until now all the childrens meals were prepared over an open fire which was not hygienic or fuel efficient. But with a completed kitchen built by the group and assisted by other TVP volunteers under the supervision of a local contractor this is no longer the case.

See the photos here!

The kitchen was funded by one of our volunteers who spent time in KCOS in 2010 and also by the Volunteer Group.

So far in KCOS we have refurbished a classroom, built a kitchen and sports facilities and painted the nursery but we still have much more to do.

Over the next year we are hoping to build a canteen for hygeine, erect a fence for security and improve farming resources for self-suffiency. All of these Projects require volunteers and funding so feel free to contact us if you think you can help!

Do you want to fight poverty in the Developing World?
If you are interested in supporting our work and staying involved in International Development there are many ways to do this.

You can help us to recruit volunteers, make regular donations, sponsor specific Projects or hold fundraisers in your college, workplace or community.

More information on this can be found here!

Featured Projects

Orphanage Work
According to UNICEF estimates in 2009 there are almost 3 million orphans (children under 18 years) in Tanzania. HIV/AIDS accounts for nearly half of these.
(View Report here)

While many of these children live with relatives a huge number end up in locally-run Orphanages which provide food, shelter, education and a home to the most vulnerable of society.

We work with a number of orphanages in Tanzania where we aim to improve the lives of the children and staff by ensuring that basic human rights are provided such as water, shelter, education and hygeine. We have built cooking, educational and sports facilities in some and funded income-generating initiatives in others.

We are always seeking volunteers to help us in our mission to ensure the sustainability and self-suffiency of all our partner Orphanages. Duties include teaching, playing with the children and other tasks as they arise.

More information on Orphanage Work can be found here.
